Room: 103 Presenter: Ed Sykes, Suzi Agne, Mary Stauffer, Judy Sykes - Dayspring Christian Academy Description: Each teacher will briefly explain & show their project and explain how it enhances or reinforces classroom learning, while teaching the use of technology: Ed Sykes – Overview of program; Suzi Agne – 2nd grade teacher: Utilizing publisher to reinforce Literature; Mary Stauffer- 3rd grade teacher: Utilizing power point to reinforce concepts learned in history class; Judy Sykes – 4th grade teacher: Utilizing excel to enhance a science project
Room: 104 Presenter: Becky Bair and Amanda Grossmann, Elizabethtown Area School District Description: Using research skills, Kid Pix, and Photo Booth, our students created a culminating project, a travel agency commercial, for our science unit about space. The commercials were posted to class websites, and visitors, using Google docs, were able to vote on their favorite commercial. This integrated project allows students to demonstrate literacy and science standards.
Room: 106A Presenter: Andrea Hoglund, Warwick School District Description: This session will look at ways of using the SMARTboard for everyday activities such as morning work, reading groups and seating charts.
Room: 106B Presenter: Jill Greiner, Manheim Township School District Description: We will discuss why and how to use interactive video conferences with elementary students. We will explore steps for setting up a collaboarative conference. We will discover how to find interactive video conferences for K-6 using CILC and visit with CILC Provider - Royal Botanical Gardens - http://www.rbg.ca/. (They have supplied links to the PA Science Standards and will give us a quick overview of those video conferences for k-6 students). We will also visit the Milwaukee Public Museum - http://www.mpm.edu where we can "explore natural and cultural history in an exciting videoconference format with the Passport Distance Learning Series."
There will be web sites to explore, TWO video conferences, and a handout booklet of project templates and presentation tips for you to take home.
Room: 106C Presenter: Megan Urban, Penn Manor School District Description: Blogs are active websites that allow fast content publishing and promote social learning. Teachers in the elementary classroom are using blogs to rapidly create parent information sites, news portals, building websites and content-rich resources. This hands-on workshop will provide participants with the information, tools, and skills to create and maintain a classroom blog.
Room: 106D Presenter: Vicki Reed, Hempfield School District Description: Discovery Education has recently updated their web interface and also has added many new resources. This workshop will be an overview of Discovery Education streaming site. Remember these videos, photos, speeches and songs can be used in any student project and unlike you-tube legally allows teachers to download the videos. If you have not recently looked at Discovery Education (formerly unitedstreaming) recently, you might be surprised to see what is there.
