Session Title: Coding in the Curriculum

Description:
Integrating coding into the curriculum is an important part of preparing students for jobs that don’t exist yet. Understanding the process of teaching coding can be rather daunting. Figuring out where it fits within the already-defined curriculum is another challenge in and of itself. In this session, participants will learn about the ways in which coding integrates within the ELA and Math Common Core State Standards and will get hands-on experience with different coding platforms. Through this session, participants will be invited into the “Coding Connect” community, created by Google Certified Teachers, with a mission to connect coders with educators.

Session Title: iPads in the K-2 Classroom: A District-wide Initiative

Description:
This presentation will give a synopsis of how the Cocalico School District has begun to integrate sets of iPads into their K-2 classrooms. Topics will include: initiative funding, device management, teacher training, ideas for iPad use with primary students, and troubleshooting.

Learn best practices for tech integration in the elementary classroom. We will be working with mobile devices, Web 2.0 sites, BrainPop, and Scholastic News and all content can be used with the interactive whiteboard. See practical examples of technology implemented in the primary classroom with lots of examples for K-3!

Session Title: Teaching Intermediate?.... Google It

Description:
This session will explain how to use Google to help students communicate, collaborate, and hand in work. I will also show how to give and take quizzes using Google docs can make taking and grading multiple choice tests and quizzes much easier. In addition, ideas will be given on how to use Google Blogger and Remind to communicate with parents, and students and allow 2 way communication for discussion.

Session Title: Engaging Students With Video Creation Projects

Description:
When students create projects that are only shared in the classroom, they'll settle for good enough. When students create videos that are shared with a global audience, they'll only settle for the best. This hands-on workshop introduces teachers to a variety of tools that their students can use to create videos to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a wide array of topics. Participants in this session will learn about video formats and each format can fit into their classrooms. A discussion of copyright, Creative Commons, and fair use is included in this workshop. At the end of the workshop each participant will have at least one completed video to share with others.

Plickers is a powerfully simple tool that lets teachers collect real-time formative assessment data without the need for student devices. Teacher Tool Kit is excellent easy and simple way to take attendance in classroom. Also, the awesome way to track behaviors in all types of classroom.

Session Title: Designing a Course as a Game: Results from a Multiplayer Classroom

The multiplayer classroom is a technique to incorporate game elements into course design. The course is the game! The multiplayer classroom movement started in 2010 with Lee Sheldon, who was a professor at Indiana University at the time. Professor Sheldon's pursuit of integrating a game experience into the classroom resulted in a book, The Multiplayer Classroom: Designing Coursework as a Game, which has guided hundreds of educators to design their courses as games. The experience with a recent course re-design from a standard format to a multiplayer classroom format will be described in this session. Analysis of student feedback as well as other case studies beyond the grad course re-design will also be explored.
