Session Title : Using Tech4Learning to Create and Collaborate

Description: The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) has identified specific skills that today’s student will need to be successful in a digital society. These include the ability to demonstrate creativity and Innovation, as well as to communicate and collaborate. Come explore how Pixie can help build these skills through a variety of projects that range from skill-building activities to open-ended projects that encourage even reluctant writers to create, communicate, and use higher-order thinking skills.

Session Title : Web 2.0 Tools for the Elementary Classroom

Description: As educators, we are always doing “whatever it takes to ensure that struggling and advanced learners, students with varied cultural heritages, and children with different background experiences all grow as much as they possibly can each day, each week, and throughout the year.” (Carol Ann Tomlinson) Because students today are digital natives technology is second nature to them--they enjoy it and it motivates them in their learning. During Web 2.0 Tools for the Elementary Classroom, we will explore some examples of Web 2.0 tools that can be used for differentiation as well as others with which we can trigger thinking and increase writing skills, engage visual learners and actively engage students in the learning process individually and collaboratively.

In this workshop you will learn how to create animated movies with Xtranormal and make pictures talk with Blabberize. We will be going over how to use these tools step by step so beginners are welcome!

Session Title : Communication and Collaboration with Parents and Students with Classroom Websites

Description: Learn how to use the internet and web2.0 tools to better communicate with parents and students. Demonstrations on how to embed different tools into two different classroom websites. (wikispaces and shutterfly)

Description: Using Wikispaces, Youtube videos, as well as Glogster to create your own personal website for your classroom. This presentation will walk you through the process of creating a wikispace, making it unique to you and also integrating links, videos and pictures. This is a very beginner friendly presentation and is aimed to make you feel more comfortable with wikispace as well as give you many ideas to use.
