Session Title : iPad and iTouch Apps in the Elementary Classroom

Room: 104
Presenter: Chris Smith and Tara Meyer - Conestoga Valley School District
Description: This session will demonstrate and describe how apple mobile devices and apps are and can be used in elementary classrooms, specifically for the communication skills of reading, writing, and spelling. There will be a hands on demonstration of the applications and participants will be able to use iPads and iTouches. This session is for participants who have iPods or iPads in their classroom, know they are getting them shortly, or are planning on writing a grant or technology plan to receive them. It is also encouraged that if participants have their own iPod, iPad, or iPhone that they bring it to the session.

Session Title : Targeting Diverse Learners Through Blogs using WordPress

Description: In this session teachers will learn how to use blogs as a tool for pre-assessment writing by students as they respond to prompts by teachers and by peers on topics within the curriculum. Then the teachers will learn how to use blogs for post-assessment by going back to their blogs and evaluating what they wrote prior to their learning of the topic. They will also see examples of using the blog for other alternative assessments as students write within the curricular projects as a way of expressing themselves as they learn.
